UNIBEN student emerges overall best in French National Essay contest
A 300 level French Education student of the University of Benin, David Nehemiah Boluwatife, has emerged winner of the just concluded 2021 10th edition of the Annual French Essay Writing Competition for Nigerian universities.
The contest, organised by the Fatunde Francophone Foundation (FFF), in partnership with the Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry and the Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, held in far away Badadry on 18th August.
Three other students from the institution also emerged among the top 10 winners. While Oshamisu Enebeli won 4th position, Igi Victory came 6th, with Adoga Angela clinching on to 9th position in the National contest.
Students of the Department of French from all Universities in Nigeria participated in the competition but the University of Benin stood tall amongst them all with the brilliant performance of four of their students.
Speaking with newsmen on the development, a participating student at the French Language Village lauded the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami for prioritising students’ welfare, as well as creating a conducive environment for learning and teaching.
He said, “It is not surprising to have this outstanding record from great UNIBEN under the watch of Prof. Lilian Salami, the Vice-Chancellor whose top priorities are students’ welfare and security, as well as creating a very conducive environment for learning and teaching.
“We congratulate the Vice Chancellor, the ever dynamic Head of Department of Foreign Languages, Dr Stella Omonigho and all the lecturers of the Department of Foreign Languages and Educational Foundation for the brilliant performance of their students,” the student added.
