Keith Moon once broke into Mick Jagger’s bedroom dressed as batman for midnight prank

Sir Mick Jagger has told how The Who’s Keith Moon once broke into his hotel room dressed as Batman.

The prank resulted in terrified Mick pulling a knife, fearing a deranged fan was coming to attack him.

Wild drummer Keith – famed for his drink and drug-fuelled antics – targeted the Rolling Stones frontman in Los Angeles in the 1970s.

Mick revealed: “Keith was a complete lunatic. I was in LA in a hotel once, asleep, and he broke into my room dressed as Batman.

“I woke up and there was Batman in front of me, with a mask and everything. It is not what you expect in the middle of the night.

“I think I had a knife, at least some sort of defensive weapon. So I pulled the knife and he said, ‘Oh no, it’s Keith’.

“I said, ‘You’re not Keith… I can tell you are not from your voice’.

He replied, ‘No, Keith Moon’. Then he took the mask off. He came up the fire escape. What a nutcase!”

Mick, 78, revealed the prank to US DJ Howard Stern on his Sirius XM radio show.

The Stones are in America on their No Filter tour – their first without drummer Charlie Watts, who died in August, aged 80.

Sir Mick Jagger has said he finds it “strange” performing without the late Charlie Watts as The Rolling Stones kicked off their US tour earlier this week.

Mick described Charlie as “the heartbeat of the group” and told SiriusXM DJ Howard Stern that they are constantly mentioning him and reminiscing in rehearsals.

He said: “We did so many shows with him and so many tours and so many recording sessions, it’s strange being without him.

“When he was sick, he said, ‘You’ve gotta just carry on and do this tour. Don’t stop because of me.’ So we did.”
